How can I start improving my English today?!
Use your body correctly.
Language experts say that when we speak, more than half of the meaning is communicated non-verbally—that is, through body language.
So if you don’t use clear—or any—body language when you speak English, you may be losing half of your message immediately.
Body language helps all human beings, whatever language they speak, express their thoughts and emotions more clearly and completely.
If you will simply use good body language at all times when speaking English (even online and on the phone!), you will improve your English dramatically. This is the easiest and quickest way to improve your speech, no matter what language you are speaking.
Use your voice correctly.
A common problem many non-native speakers have is people cannot hear them very well. This is why they are often asked to repeat themselves.
This happens because they are speaking English with a soft voice, too quickly, and barely opening their mouths. Maybe they speak their first language this way as well. Or maybe they are simply afraid to speak English too loudly.
As a non-native speaker, you must always speak English with a strong voice, not too quickly, and open your mouth more (a most important English speech skill).
If you will simply begin speaking English with a stronger voice and at the proper speed, you will make it much easier for people to hear and understand everything you say—the first time you say it.
What is the most important English speech skill?
Use the correct language music.
The single biggest problem most non-native speakers have is:
They speak English with the rhythm and melody of their first language.
Speaking English, or any language, with the wrong language music distorts everything you say: the sounds, the words, the sentences, and the meaning.
Your listener not only has to mentally correct any mistakes you may make, but also has to translate what you said into the correct musical form in order to understand it.
Most of the time, the reason people cannot understand your English is not because you are using the wrong sounds, words, or grammar. It is because you are speaking English with the wrong language music.
Speaking English with the correct language music is the most important skill you must have to achieve excellent English speech.
